讲座要义
I Abortion: Abortion-Three Perspectives by Tooley, Devine, and Jaggar (Oxford Uni. Press 2009) provides new insights on issues of abortion with their positions of the liberal view, the communitarian and the feminist. Each of their arguments is respectively focusing on the metaphysical personhood debates, the caring ethics concerns, and the political morality of abortion but the most overlapping issues crossing all perspectives is about whether a fetus has a right to live and how this right confronts with the mother’s right to choose abortion. This talk will concentrate on this issue and closely related concerns across the three perspectives.
II Second talk will analyze and examine different views about pornography and suggest a combined method of caring relational concerns for further investigations. First, it presents the debate between liberal views of permissive policy and feminist anti-porn perspective analyzing women’s silence in being objectified and a lack of sexual autonomy; secondly, it moves to other feminist perspectives that view porn as empowering women for economic survival but that remains a myth to the dominate idea of autonomy and agency; finally, it explores possible ways of escaping sexual solipsism and suggests a combined approach of equally fair and caring relational concerns in accord with the critical ethics of care under feminist political morality.
