Mini course: Feminist Philosophical Historiography

主讲人介绍：Prof. Dr. Supakwadee Amatayakul，美国Claremont Graduate University哲学博士。现任大利罗马国家研究委员会人口和社会政策研究所教授，Anandamahidol 基金学者。部分研究成果：J.S. Mill’s Radical Feminism in The Subjection of Women，Philosophy or Literature? : Irony through Metaphor in Philosophical Texts in Richard Rorty's Neo-Pragmatism， Descartes and Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia: Philosophical Exchanges in Friendship， Overcoming Emotions, Conquering Fate: Reflections on Descartes’s Ethics，Severing Body from the Mind: The Cartesian Model Revisited.

题目：Lecture 1: Feminism and the History of Philosophy

This lecture will provide a theoretical overview of how feminists philosophers have interacted with the history of philosophy, how they have criticized, reshaped, and eventually appropriated parts of it. It is meant to give students an idea of what has been done so far, and what has yet to be done.

Lecture 2: John Stuart Mill's Radical Feminism in The Subjection of Women

Lectures 2 and 3 will be something akin to "case studies" of feminist philosophical historiography. I will present how some or certain feminist philosophers have approached and criticized parts of the philosophical canon, and will then evaluate their studies based on a textual interpretation. Since I do not know what backgrounds your students have in the history of Western philosophy, I will have to ask you to choose between the topics of Plato and the Female Nature and John Stuart Mill's Radical Feminism in The Subjection of Women . Please let me know which one you think will better suit your students' background.

Lecture 3: Reinterpreting the "Body" in Simone de Beauvoir's Second Sex

This lecture will focus on a (later) feminist evaluation of an earlier feminist.
